Well into its 3rd Generation (WX30) by 2011, the Prius was evolving from its previous "box" design to a sleeker look. For 2010, the Prius benefitted from some user-friendly updates in both styling and motivation. The 2010 Prius was still a very familiar shape, but its appearance became a little sleeker (Would you gasp if we called it "sportier"?) than the 2009 model. Visually, it might have looked smaller, but that was an optical illusion that was actually showcasing a more streamlined appearance. In reality, the 2011 Prius was less than an inch longer and wider than the model it replaced. Forward Fun for this Prius came from all new and larger Toyota's "Hybrid Synergy Drive" which consisted of a 1.8-liter gasoline four-cylinder engine and two electric motors; one driving the front wheels, with the other functioning solely as a generator to recharge the car's battery pack. And while the immediate thought would been to assume it provided quicker off-the-line acceleration, it actually worked to allow more effortless highway cruising. A smaller electric motor contributed less torque to the overall powertrain dance, but on the plus side, it improved efficiency. This equated to a bump in horsepower from a lethargic 110 Horsepower to a much more impressive 134 Horsepower. The end result was also a thumbs-up jump in fuel economy, from last year's EPA-estimated 48 mpg city/45 mpg highway to the 2010 model's 51/48 mpg. While they were in an "Enhancement Mode" the fine folks at Toyota also addressed other previous Prius' faults in overall drivability. A more rigid chassis and a revised electric-assist steering system helped to improve steering feel and a sense of driver assurance; thankfully all but eliminating the old Prius' steering which had more of a disconnected, archaic feel. And while it still wouldn't be your first choice for Canyon-Curve-Cruising, its straight-line stability was noticeably improved to give it a more traditional car-like feel. Of note is the ABS Pump which is causing the "ABS" light to Appear and will need to be replaced at some point in the future. With that said, it is not affecting the way the vehicle drives, stops and performs. All four 195/65R15 tires mounted on OEM 15" Alloy Wheels are in good to very good condition. On the outside, this rust-free Prius sports an easy-to-care-for Bright Tan (Gold to some) Paint Scheme that is complimented by a Light Tan Cloth interior. The hard-to-find Optional Solar Roof is a BIG plus for Texas Summers. It boasts a solar-powered ventilation system that helps keep the interior air temperature from rising while the vehicle is parked, making the cool-down time shorter when the driver starts its operation. Of note is the CARFAX Report which does indicate this Prius was involved in a very minor accident waaaayy back in September of 2012. No airbags were deployed; there was no structural damage; and the vehicle maintains a completely clean title. For the safety conscious, this Prius came standard with antilock brakes with brake assist, traction control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and traction control.
